Jean Batten's Influence

Jean Batten’s pursuit of a typically male profession inspired other women and men to disregard this image of women and let them pursue their dreams with less judgement.

Jean Batten Statue in Auckland Airport
Honouring her achievements, many tributes to Jean Batten have been formed, a large amount residing in her hometown of Rotorua. In Rotorua alone there is a street, a square, a plaque, a mural, a small sculpture and an Aviation Scholarship that has been awarded annually since 1999 with a value of up to five thousand dollars. A statue of Jean Batten is placed in Auckland Airport along with an Auckland school named Jean Batten School.
As the majority of her ground-breaking flights were made during the time of the Great Depression in the 1930’s, Jean became an embodiment of hope and accomplishment. She was the cause of much celebration and jubilance in New Zealand as well as the rest of the world.
